Product Description

Water Lilies Hidden Depths is a central work in Susan Bunn’s Undercurrents exhibition, exploring the contrast between what we see on the surface and what lies beneath.

The water lily appears calm and serene, floating effortlessly on the surface of the water. Beneath it, however, lies a complex network of stems, roots and unseen growth. For Susan, this becomes a metaphor for the emotional lives we carry beneath the composed exterior we present to the world.

Built through layers of oil paint, gold and silver leaf, the six panels explore reflection, light and the shifting relationship between surface and depth. The shimmering water creates a sense of movement, while the lilies offer moments of stillness and contemplation.

The work reflects the central themes of Undercurrents: mental wellbeing, hidden struggles, resilience, connection and hope.

The six panels can be displayed together as one large panoramic work or as three larger diptychs, offering different ways of experiencing the piece.

Limited-edition metal prints will also be available.
